Rolo survives a 15 inning G7 slugfest vs Lance reaching the ‘ship with 4/7 RPs available. G1 Cole@Gonzalez (PIT) – Rolo starts well with a Yaz 3B/SF in the 1st. In his 3rd HR attempt 4 batters in, Toby’s Brantley is unable to miss the 6-5 pureshot, so we’re tied. Toby’s Yaz hits a diamond in the 5th, but Rolo answers with a Simmons lead- off 2B, Yaz singling him home. Brantley’s 1-4 delivers his 2nd HR of the day in the b6th restoring Toby’s lead. Wong Si off Jeffess opens t9th, Iglesias gets Perez, Tapia and Tellez single in succession, but Verdugo nails Wong to 13 at the plate. Rolo’s last move is PH Monty for Buxton, and of course he rolls a 3-8 wasting Cole’s CG effort. Urias@Woodruff – Toby rallies for 2 in the 4th on a Berti range single. JuttyT rolls 2-4 landing a HR off Jarlin to halve the advantage in the 6th. With 2 aboard in the t7, PH Solano gets 3Bx to Bohm and is doubled up on a 17 split. Toby adds on eventually winning 4-1. Mahle@Gonzalez (S20) – Buxton drives in Turner for a 1st inning run to put Rolo ahead. Cronenworth ties the game with a clutch 1-8 in the 4th. Toby pulls ahead on a Si,BB,BB missed DP split (Simmons) in the 8th, Jeffress closing to secure a 3 game advantage. Walker@Glasnow – Rolo scores in the 1st again, Toby matches in the t4th, but Buxton’s 3-9 puts Rolo ahead until a Belt lead-off 2B leads to a 2-2 tie in the t6th. In the b6th, 3 Si and a SF put Rolo ahead 4-2, Watson and Hand secure a game 5. Cole@Gonzalez – Rolo finds the six column with his 4 LHH to jump out 2-0. A 6 run 5th convinces Toby to raise the white Flag – back to PIT, Urias@Woodruff. Rolo gets Sal Perez’ first shot for either team, connecting to 8 on Woodie’s card, but his fortunes sink when Bohm lands a grand slam to 4 in the bottom 1st. Each team scores once more in what is a 5-2 clincher for Toby who wins in six games. Rotten luck for Rolo – failing to score in the t9th G1, Toby dropping a 1 split on Simmons to score the winning run in G3, and a GS to 4 in G6, spoiled the Series for a very strong Cruz side, while Toby breaks the Vegas curse, gaining a measure of revenge for losing to Rolo in the ’20 Worlds final.
