The Cleveland tournament this year was one 14 man draft and we split into 2 7 man groups for round robin play. Drafting that many teams without an APS was a challenge. Highlights of the draft were Rich P taking Bieber first overall saying he would only do that in a 14-man draft then followed it up by taking 7 more pitchers before drafting his first hitter. Sal Perez falls to Norm at the 6th pick. Jeremy Kostyo takes Betts in round 3 after selecting Trout in 1 and Acuna in 2 introducing him as his starting 2b. Top 3 from each group made the playoffs.
Semis 1 – Meeksy (14-14) and Greg Strite (19-9) played a great 7 game series. Meeksy comes back and wins game 6 and 7 to move on to the world series. He also pulled out games 6 and 7 against Rich P (16-12) to win his quarter final series.
Semis 2- Norm (22-6) played Jeremy Kostyo (17-11) in the other semis and it was a 7 game thriller. Jeremy takes game 1 on a strong start from Lopez. Norm takes the next 3 games with timely hits including a game 4 2-run HR from Iglesias to give him the 5-4 win. Jeremy comes back to win games 5 and 6 to force game 7 on strong play from Stassi who homers in both games in very timely fashion. A Sal Perez diamond to 7 gave Norm the 2-0 lead in b1 of game 7 and the pitching held up for a 3-0 win. Jeremy had won his quarter-finals 4-1 against Frank’s Blasters.
World Series – Norm takes it 4 games to 2. Meeksy’s Cinderella run comes to end in a series where lots of runs were scored as the winning team pretty much ran away with the games they won. In the clinching game 6, Aguilar hit a PH 3-run HR in b8 to seal the deal. Sal Perez was the series MVP going 12/25 with 2 2bs and 4 hrs. Crazy numbers even from a top pick.
