Lance Shull and Fred Stibor squared off in the May Netplay championship, both teams having advanced over their semifinal opponents (John Hoagland and the Koysto Bunch) in 5 games. The teams split the first two games at Lance’s Circus Maximus (20/20 design park), with the series tied heading to PNC Park for game 3. Lance jumped out to an early 5 – 0 lead in gm 3. Fred came back to tie it 6 – 6 in the 6th capped by a pinch-hit 2-run HR by Teoscar vs. Skubal on the 5 – 9. The bullpens were dominant and held it at 6 – 6 through the top of 14th inning, when Fred tallied the winning run with a 3 – 9 Chris Taylor triple and 6 – 8 Goldschmidt single off of Archie Bradley. Fred took game 4 by a score of 8 – 2 setting up a potential game 5 series clincher at PNC in front of the home fans. Maeda threw 7 scoreless as Fred clung to the 1-0 lead through 7. Lance tied it in the top 8th with back to back doubles from Moore and Mondesi off Antone, and took a 2 – 1 lead in the top 9th with an Arenado sac fly. With the bullpen burned, Lance was forced to turn to a fatigued Jarlin Garcia to close it out. Yan Gomes led off with a ph double followed by an Iglesias single to tie it in the 9th. With a fatigued Garcia still in the game in the bottom of 11, Fred got a 3 -3 HBP from Dickerson to lead it off, followed by a 5 -5 weakness dot single by Iglesias and the series clincher 2-10 ballpark single by Grisham! Very tight series with Fred dodging Lance’s massive home run power just enough to win the two extra-inning games.
